Richard Rolle: A Workshop Presented By Fr. Terry Ryan, CSP 4/26/2014
Join us Saturday, April 26 from 9:00AM to Noon for a workshop on Richard Rolle. Rolle, 1300-1349, was an English contemporary of Walter Hilton, Julian of Norwich, The Cloud of Unknowing, and in Germany, Meister Eckhart. Rolle, a non- monastic layperson, advocated Spiritual Sweetness in contemplation. The feelings of joy and sweetness could not be merited, but were a gift. His focus on feelings were counter to The Cloud, Eckhart and Hilton. He was anti intellectual with an aversion to abstract speculation. His piety was more affective, rather than the piety of absence. Coffee and treats begin at 9:00 AM. The workshop is free, but a freewill donation is most welcome. Contact 415-288-3800 for more information.
